School Holiday Today – August 29, 2025
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir have declared school holidays today in response to severe rainfall, flooding, and associated risks.
State-Wise Details
Punjab
All government and private schools across the state remain closed from August 27 to August 30, 2025, as announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The decision comes amid persistent heavy rains and flood threats from overflowing rivers like Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi.
Himachal Pradesh
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts for the Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi districts, and yellow alerts for Shimla and Mandi on August 29, with orange alerts following for August 30–31. District administrations have either issued or are expected to issue school closure notices in these areas.https://www.oneindia.com/
Jammu & Kashmir
Educational institutions in the Jammu Division are closed until August 30 due to ongoing heavy rainfall and flooding. Classes for students in Grades 9–12 are being moved online where feasible.
Why the Closures?
Flooding & Landslides: Monsoon rains have triggered landslides and floods across the region, especially in mountainous areas.
Student Safety: Authorities deemed it unsafe for students and staff to travel amid heavy downpours and disrupted infrastructure.
Communication Disruptions: Power outages and poor road conditions in many districts have complicated access to schools and emergency services.
