NDA Eligibility Criteria 2026: Age Limit, Qualification

1. NDA 2026 Age Limit

Age limit is one of the most important parts of NDA eligibility. Since UPSC releases two notifications each year—NDA 1 in January and NDA 2 in May/June—the age requirements differ slightly.

NDA 1 2026 Age Limit

• Candidates must be born between July 2, 2007 and July 1, 2010 (both dates inclusive).

• This means candidates will be 16.5 to 19.5 years old as of the start of training.

NDA 2 2026 Age Limit

• Candidates must be born between January 2, 2008 and January 1, 2011 (both dates inclusive).

• Again, the acceptable age range is 16.5 to 19.5 years.

Important Points

• No age relaxation is allowed for SC/ST/OBC categories or for NCC cadets.

• Candidates must provide Class 10 or equivalent certificates as proof of date of birth.

• Age is calculated strictly according to UPSC rules; incorrect DOB leads to rejection.

2. Educational Qualification for NDA 2026

Educational qualification varies depending on the wing the candidate is applying for:

For Army Wing

• Candidates must have passed Class 12 from a recognized board.

• Students from any stream—Arts, Commerce, or Science—are eligible.

For Air Force and Naval Wing

• Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics.

• Students without Physics and Mathematics in Class 12 are not eligible for these wings.

For 10+2 Cadet Entry Naval Academy

• Same requirement as Naval Wing: Physics + Maths is mandatory.

Candidates Appearing in Class 12

• Students appearing for Class 12 board exams in 2026 are also eligible.

• However, they must provide passing certificates before joining the academy.

3. Nationality Requirements for NDA 2026

The candidate must be:

Any one of the following:

1. A Citizen of India, or

2. A Subject of Nepal, or

3. A Subject of Bhutan, or

4. A Tibetan refugee, who came to India before January 1, 1962, to settle permanently, or

5. A person of Indian origin who migrated from Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan, East African countries, or Vietnamto settle permanently in India.

Candidates from categories 4 and 5 require an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.

4. Marital Status for NDA 2026

• Only unmarried male and female candidates can apply.

• Marriage during training is strictly prohibited.

• If found married after selection, the candidate will be disqualified and removed from training.

5. NDA Eligibility for Girls 2026

From 2021 onwards, female candidates are fully eligible for NDA entry. For 2026:

Eligibility Conditions for Girls

• Same age limit, educational qualification, nationality, and marital status as male candidates.

• Physical parameters differ slightly, especially in the minimum height criteria.

• Seats for girls are limited because of training capacity, but competition is open and merit-based.

6. Physical and Medical Standards for NDA 2026

NDA has strict physical, mental, and medical fitness requirements. Candidates must be:

• Free from diseases and disabilities

• Psychologically fit

• Physically strong with good stamina

A. Height Requirements

For Girls

• Minimum height: 152 cm

• Air Force requires 163 cm for both male and female candidates.

B. Weight Standards

• Weight should match age and height (as per UPSC medical charts).

• Underweight or obese candidates may face temporary rejection.

C. Vision Standards

• Army/Navy: 6/6 and 6/9 (correctable to 6/6)

• Air Force:

  • Hypermetropia: +2.0 D max

  • Myopia: –2.5 D max

E. Tattoo Policy

7. Other Important NDA Eligibility Conditions 2026

1. Physical Fitness Before Training

Candidates must avoid the following before SSB and medical exams:

• Bodybuilding supplements

• Crash diets

• Extreme workouts

• Temporary tattoos

2. SSB Interview Eligibility

Only candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for:

• 5-day SSB Interview

• Psychological tests

• Group tasks

• Conference

• Medical examination

3. Final Merit List

Final selection depends on:

• Written exam marks

• SSB marks

• Medical fitness

• Seat availability

8. NDA Eligibility for Dropper/Repeater Students

Many aspirants take multiple attempts. UPSC allows:

• 16.5 years minimum

• 19.5 years maximum

• No restriction on number of attempts

So, students who have dropped years or are repeaters can apply as long as they fall in the given age bracket.

9. NDA 2026 Eligibility for Students from Open Schools (NIOS)

Yes, NIOS candidates are fully eligible if they:

• Passed 10+2 from NIOS

• Meet age, nationality, and physical standards
