
SSC CGL Syllabus 2025: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is all set to conduct Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam from August 13 to 30 to fill 14582 vacancies. Candidates preparing for the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam must have a thorough understanding of the syllabus to ensure they don’t miss out on important topics and easily outrank others in the exam. The SSC CGL syllabus is divided into two stages: Tier 1 and Tier 2, including four common subjects: Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English, and General Awareness. Each subject comprises a set of specific topics from which questions are asked in the exam.
SSC CGL syllabus provides a standardised framework for assessing the knowledge and skills of candidates aspiring for various Group B and Group C posts. It ensures a fair and transparent selection process by testing candidates’ knowledge about the same topics. 2. Exam Pattern Overview (2025)
Tier 1: Online CBT, 100 MCQs (25 each from Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English), 200 marks total, 60 minutes, –0.5 for wrong answers .
Tier 2:
Paper I (all candidates): Math, Reasoning, English, GA (300 marks, 2.5 h, –1 per wrong answer) .
Paper II (JSO – Statistics) and Paper III (AAO – Finance & Economics): 200 marks each, –0.5 per wrong answer.
3. Tier 1 Syllabus – Subject‑wise
General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Classification, Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Directions & Distances, Puzzles, Seating Arrangements, Spatial, Logical Venn diagrams, Pattern completion .
General Awareness: Ancient to Modern History, Indian & World Geography, Polity, Indian Economy, Basic Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Current Affairs, Static GK (awards, books, personality, sports) .
Quantitative Aptitude: Number Systems, Simplification, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Average, Time & Work, Speed & Distance, Profit & Loss, Discount, Mixtures & Alligation, Pipes & Cisterns; Algebra (Linear, Quadratic, Identities); Geometry (triangles, circles, quadrilaterals), Mensuration (areas, volumes), Coordinate Geometry; Trigonometry (ratios, heights & distances); DI (bar, pie, line); Statistics & Probability basics .
English Comprehension: Grammar (Parts of Speech, Tenses, Subject‑Verb Agreement, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech), Vocabulary (Synonyms/Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases, One‑Word Substitution), Cloze Test, Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting, Sentence Improvement & Rearrangement, Fill in the Blanks, Para Jumbles, Spelling Correction.
4. Tier 2 Syllabus – Paper‑wise
Paper I (Compulsory): Advanced Quant (Number Systems, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Statistics, Probability), Reasoning & General Intelligence, English Language & Comprehension, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge & DEST (for specific posts) .
Paper II – Statistics (JSO): Descriptive Statistics, Correlation & Regression, Sampling Theory, Probability Theory, Statistical Inference, Random Variables & Distributions, Time Series, Index Numbers .
